Maybe The Count of Monte Cristo (Le Comte de Monte-Cristo)... hmmm... Talking about influence, I think that his first literature works which were plays for theatres, had great influence upon his later preoccupation with novel writings. The novels are so much packed up with dialogues that it reminds of plays. I suppose, apart from other characteristics, it made them suitable for film adaptations. Don't you think so?
