Did anyone notice that the US mens beat the Great Britain mens in a real man's sport today: curling? :D
Sorry. Just a parody of another thread out there. :D

Did anyone notice the cute girls on the US women's curling team? Now that is a real man's spectator sport.

Oh yeah, curling is truly a fantastic sport, Just love it the way they have to swipe the ice like mad men, or mad women.

I really can't explain what it is about curling that fascinates me, but I simply cannot look away. And not just because Chmpman is correct about the US women's team. It's one of the only disciplines in the winter olympics that is more about brains than brawn. In a world where everything moves faster all the time, and almost every single sport is about getting bigger and getting there quicker and scoring more goals, curling takes its time. The stones glide across the ice slooooowly and get there in their own time. It's mesmerizing.

Nice advocacy for curling. I don't understand it, but it looks like it requires real craft.

To me curling looks a bit like bowls on ice. Both are interesting sports that are watchable. Just not my cup of tea.

Good comparison, though the main difference to bowling is that both teams compete on the same track. Which means you need to not only score yourself, but also make sure that your opponents don't score. Snooker on ice is probably an even better comparison. It's not a game you watch for any dazzling displays of athletic capability, but to admire the strategy and finesse.

I think Aimus was referring to Bowls (http://www.bowlsengland.com/) not bowling. This game really is similar to curling, but without the sweeping.

Yeah, thats what I meant. Bowls, it's the sweeping that makes curling so funny, but if one knows the rules, it's actually interesting, because you know why it is done.

I stand corrected. Never heard of bowls before, I think. Thanks for the info!

Just to once and for all prove that curling is a fantastic sport, and to celebrate the Olympic gold going to Sweden, here's one of the (literally) coolest music videos ever:
Team Sweden vs HammerFall 80-0 (http://www.httphost1.com/curlingtjejerna/Acuvue_Hearts_on_Fire_S.wmv) :D

oh beer,
we just watched it and it was the best. our street band is very similar. Travis has been teaching guitar for a long time and plays classical as well as heavy metal and grind core awesomely and Clayton plays a smokin' left handed bass guitar. Because I was classically trained in voice I found the switch over to heavy metal quite easy. But I remember on one occasion when we were playing for really scarey hard core drug types as well as some well I can't really define them, there were some ladies present who were overseeing the refreshments and when I started singing they were so stunned that they all moved over a couple of tables and wouldn't sit with me after. oh well. We got a standing ovation so it really didn't matter.
Have you ever heard Bloodgood? They are Christian but the lead vocalist sounds a lot like hammerfall's lead except I think his range is quite a bit larger. He was in his drug days the lead for Jesus Christ Superstar, he is a tiny guy with a huge voice. But the clothes, man he looked prettier than most girls I know.
How do we download that video to send to someone else we know will love it.
I LOVE the girls joining in with all that passion. cracks me right up. I only ever have guys behind me, haven't found any girls with a strong enough voice that is available anyway.
but anyway I don't know how anyone can call something a real 'mans' sport since I was not aware there is a universal concept of just what constitutes a 'real' man. Is there? I would LOVE to hear it! :D

oh by the way I didn't mean that I thought the girls were actually singing. I...oh forget it,my thoughts were just wandering. It's one of those days.
