You have expressed that wonderfully. Unfortunately, they’ll probably think this is me under an assumed name. The most suspicious thing is that you have spelled Unnamable correctly. I hope the mods or whoever are able to check the IP addresses to see that it’s not me. Anyway, how do you have time to waste on this site when you still owe me an essay on Modes of Alienation in Pinter’s ‘The Caretaker’? And don’t forget, you have to learn all of Shakespeare’s sonnets by Monday. :D

hey pinter fan

hope you're having fun here... and be sure to read through all the posts of your teacher in here... he's been a nice teacher to a good number of us here on the forums too.

and yeah, best of luck for the sonnets thing...

@Dr. Unnamable... I must say, you should make that a bit lighter... it isn't fun to read so much shakespeare at one go... plus an essay...

by the way this reminds me... I have to finish reading all of sidney's sonnets by Monday... I'm DEAD!

Welcome Pinter fan. Say, does the Unnamable look anything like the avatar he displays here, or is he deceiving us with that image of mature and rugged good looks, and in person he's just another bland, youthful face with dully predictable chisled features? :D Seriously though, hope you have fun in the forum when your teacher allows you the time off from writing on modes of alienation and studying Shakespeare's sonnets ;) .

Oh, Pinter, please don't tell us he's got a baby face. I imagine him to be in a dire need of a face transplant, requiring weekly dermatologist visits, and every night coating his warped skin with some expensive skin cream.

Heheheh, well he looks much younger than what his avatar displays  He hasn't really got a youthful face but definately younger than his avatar hehe. Thanks, I am already having fun lol :D

Hahaha, no he hasn't got a 'babyface' but he doesn't need a face transplant either hehe. He looks like a normal teacher, he sometimes has this smirky grin on his face hehe, but actually he's a very nice teacher, highly intelligent

Out of curiosity, Pinter, are you in an undergrad or grad class?

I was curious myself, what level of education is this, that Unnamable teaches? And if college, what is the class? Tell all.

what are you talking about???

The Unnamable
02-19-2006, 04:12 AM
Yes, what’s going on here? Why all the fascination with my skin? I didn’t choose the avatar because I thought it resembled me! And I think it’s unfair on my poor student to ask her for assessments relating to how good-looking I am. I never allow students to look me directly in the face, anyway. Suffice to say, I look like a 40 year old Harrison Ford. As for pinter_fan’s age – the course is pre-university. I teach 11 – 18 year olds but have done some time in Higher Education as well.
To answer a question you asked elsewhere, Virgil, I have taught ‘pornography’ as a cultural phenomenon – it wasn’t a course in how to make it! I’ve taught aspects of Media representation, semiotics and theories of knowledge as well as Literature. It was an academic analysis of the subject and obviously did not involve watching it. You have some strange ideas about me.

Strange, indeed--everybody knows that porn filming is a post-graduate course. Sheesh...

Ok. I was asking if you taught it as literature. That's [teaching pornography] a horse of a different color, as a cowboy might say. I suspected there might be an explanation.

As to your features, you mean that avatar is not a photograph? ;)

I can envision scraggly gray hair, a blad spot shaped like a mushroom right on the back of his head, black plastic frames with coke-bottle bottom lenses, breath that smells like stale tuna, a suit from the 60's that smells like mothballs, and a second job as a busdriver!

Isn't this fun??!!

What is semiotics? And I got another question too, how is porn a "cultural" phenomenon?

Virgil
02-26-2006, 09:01 PM
Actually if porn film was a college course back in my day, most of the guys would have signed up right away.

LOL: *Imagining a porn course taught by a degenerate looking guy as sdr4jc describes above, or perhaps even by Unnamble's avatar, in some basement classroom in an old college building*

Yeeesh.

Anyone ever seen "Primal Fear"?

chmpman
02-26-2006, 10:37 PM
I have. Very scary thought there Robin. I truly hope Unnamable's classes focused on the intellectual nature of looking at pornography as a reflection of society, rather than as instructive lessons or elsewise.

Hmm..don't really know why mine and The Unnamable's IP addresses are the same..probably because we live in the same area of the city but whatever it is, we're definately not the same person. Can't really think of any ways to prove this, I guess that's up to you to decide.
Anyway, he doesn't look like his avatar. As for the pornography stuff, I know nothing about that..

If this is a joke, and it seems like it later when you write that you were sarcastic, it is not a good joke. Irony and sarcasm does not work well when I can´t see you. It is so easy to believe that you really checked. If you haven´t checked perhaps you could make that clear in the post? It would be a nice thing to do, not to create any misunderstanding.

It doesn't matter if their IP addresses are the same or not, if they are the same person or not, as long as the forum rules are respected.

I'm closing this thread now.

pinter_fan, I hope you will continue to frequent the forums and enjoy the site :)
