I am no expert on this fellow or his parents, but this page says that Santo Domingo is now part of Haiti. The Santo Domingo of today, is the capitol city of the Dominican Republic. I did some reading and learned that the French called their colony in Hispaniola "Saint-Domingue", which is now Haiti and the source of the confusion. This perhaps should be the proper way to write it, in French, instead of Spanish which can obviouly cause confusion.
