Most authors could certainly talk the talk, but how many could really walk the walk?

Enter Miguel De Cervantes, author of 'Don Quixote', veteran soldier and swordsman. Fresh from the battle of Lepanto, he may only have one good hand but he claims it's all he needs to whup any of his cissy colleagues...

Is any other writer man (or woman) enough to take him on?

Irish rebel playwright Brendan Behan. He would not fight fair but he would certainly win. He built bombs for the IRA and then put them in cars or jails etc.
Theres got to be someone wh would do it wrote though ... Behan's would be a shallow victory ... fisticuffs anyone?

Yep, poor ol' Miguel would get blown into tapas there...

For fisticuffs Hemingway seems the obvious choice, but I've always had the feeling that his mouth ran ahead of his trousers - there must be someone who could step up to papa...

Well, I guess he'd be no match for Behan's bombs, but how about Aeschylus, who fought the Persians at Marathon?

One of my favourite bits of trivia is that he supposedly died when an eagle dumped a tortoise on his head. Is there a moral in that?

Lord Byron is regarded as a hero in Greece because he assisted in their battle for independence. Sadly, he fell ill and died before seeing much active service. I never heard how handy he was with his fists though...

Ehh, Michael Crichton has cloned carnosaurs and (oversized) dromaeosaurids at his disposal. Quite a threat...

Well, H.G. Wells had those hideous Martians of his in his handy right pocket, and I think we know who would win the fight between aliens and dinosaurs...

hmmm, I'm predicting this thread gets terribly off topic, again.

OK - ontopicification underway.

Hardest author in the universe has to be Henry Rollins. Anybody want to argue?

I do; what kind of hard author attempts stand-up comedy, and confessedly likes Will Smith? He's a teddy bear.
