In high school, we read some of Poe's works, one of which was a tale of a surgeon or possibly a scientist who had recently married a beautiful young bride. She was perfect in every detail except for a small mole on her cheek. The husband initially wasn't bothered by this, but as time went on, he became more and more obsessed with it, and eventually tried to operate on his wife, with the intent of removing the mole, thus making her "perfect", however, he found no matter how deep he cut, he could never find the source of the mole. As it turns out, the mole originated from her very soul, and he ended up killing the very person he was trying to make perfect. Now keep in mind, this was back in high school, which was 15 years ago, so I am certain I don't have the details correct, but if any of you could help me with this, and let me know what the name of this work was, I would be very greatful.
