View Full Version : lets have a debating thread!!
hey guys i think it will be very productive and helpful if every two weeks we have a debating topic on which we all give our views and thoughts. it could help im prove everybody's intellect, Dont u think?
so lets get on with it this weeks topic is
"Prejudice is the crutch of the elderly, the young are free from it"
you could suggest topics as well

I definitely disagree that prejudice is the crutch of the elderly alone. It seems to me prejudice rules in young street gangs and pta meetings where moms won't sit with someone who even dresses differently or is from a lower social class.

I agree with Rachel. I think different generations have their own prejudices. I've found that while older people tend to be more conservative in their views, and for that reason hold on to beliefs that are frowned upon by younger generations, they are often more patient in the way that they approach life, and, having more experience to draw from, are less affected by sensationalism and popular thought. On the other side of the coin, young people are more often forward-thinking with regard to politics and foreign cultures, but can be easily sucked into radical ways of thinking that close their mind to more deliberate and complex thought on an issue.

Frankly we have enough debates. I think they're more frequent than every two weeks. I get burnt out from them.

The discussion on young vs old has reminded me of this:
Few parents nowadays pay any regard to what their children say to them. The old-fashioned respect for the young is fast dying out.Gwendolen, The Importance of Being Earnest, Act 1

I hope you're not accusing him/her of cribvirginity! As if that would ever happen here....
Personally, I've found that old people's prejudices are deep seated but tend to be largely controlled, whereas those of the younger generation are often fleeting but far more vociferously, even violently, expressed.
I have no prejudices, Everyone that I hate deserves it! ;)

I think Unnamable's found a home.
I agree with Xamonas--most people have prejudices, and the older one is, the more entrenched one's prejudices tend to be. But with experience comes restraint, in most cases, and hence the most terrible actions taken on the basis of prejudice seem to be in young people.

I agree with the general consences there ... not much of a debate from me. But I think this is a good idea for a thread ... an excelent way for our (sometimes) heated discussions to take form in a more closed environment.

I just want to break all the rules and prejudices. I'm not out of laws but I love a free life. Normal things are so boring. I am myself. No prejudice can disturb and stop me on the way searching my desires. We don't live because of society's prejudices. We just live for our own life!
guys calm down
i said two weeks for t takes me time to cum uup wid topics and ill probabaly get a topic out of what we discuss. any wayz if u have any ideas on the topic , your ideas will be more than welcomed. ok not two weeks every day!!!! hehehe
