I doubt if the Cymru would share your notion of Wales being a nation of boys.
In my unlearned opinion the game of rugby is for 'boys' only of all nations and they are all winners-at least in their own minds.

Oh yea! Bring it home, boys!! My god, I just sat and drooled through the whole game!! I think my fantasy involves a good few of the England lads :brow:

I am probably setting myslef up for a huge fall here but, the way both Ireland and Wales played today with a little luck we might finish higher than 5th this year.....however there is of course the dreaded possibility of ending 6th again.

Sounds like a lot of fun. I don't know rugby or the national teams you talk about, but good competitve sports is one of the great pleasure of life.

Good luck tomorrow kilted. I hope your rugby team plays better than your football team though, otherwise you're sunk.

We're fine for tomorrow its against France which means we will play well....the problem comes when we play Italy.

Same with the football team, able to compete against Germany/ Holland/ Italy etc.....but always liable to get gubbed by the superstars from the Faroe Islands

Thank you for your kind dedication. Once again, the brute power of the English triumphs over the subtle artistry of the Celt. I chose books over rugger (as we grammar school boys called it), otherwise I'd be offering you a dedication.

I agree that rugby is genuinely hardcore. Gone are the comparatively delicate touch and the sissy padding of American football...instead, there are head trauma and shattering of bone.

Ahem, like I said in the time thread earlier: "Singing eeaasssy, eeaasssy, this is so frickin easy" A trip to Wales to beat them next week. Then a victory against the sassenachs to come

The England game was awesome, they played really well though the final score might have been a bit harsh. Oh, and it's looking good for us after the dismal displays of the Irish and the French.

Can I just say well done to the scotland boys? That was a bloody good game they played yesterday. First time they've beat France there in Ten Years!! It's looking good for them. I'm cheering for them after England.

dream?? well yeah, but if you show up and underestimate us like the french did it could well turn into your nightmare.

We might have done KE, but after you kicked their Gallic butts, we'll know better I think.

Congratulations btw.

Perhaps my earlier thoughts were rather far fetched. However, I would have liked to have seen 15v15 for a full 80mins. (that kick murray gave to gough's head only merited a yellow, not a sending off)

I was wondering if you’d return. :D

Perhaps my earlier thoughts were rather far fetched.
A beautiful example of understatement.

However, I would have liked to have seen 15v15 for a full 80mins.
So would I – we’d still have won and you would have had to find an explanation other than the one you have. Besides, Shane Williams is so small, he only counts as a half.

(that kick murray gave to gough's head only merited a yellow, not a sending off)
Perhaps kicking someone in the face with a studded leather boot warrants a mere warning in your part of the world (is that the reason for your exile?) but a gentleman’s game requires gentlemen. Besides, if he hadn’t been sent off, Sidoli would have crushed his skull in the next ruck. :brow:

As a Scotland fan you get used to your country disappointing you at sporting events, I have made far worse predictions in the past and likely will in the future. I always show up for the ridicule after the prediction goes wrong.

As for the kick, it was purely reactionary. He saw red so to speak ;)

Well, all I can say is - only 2 games played and only one team with an 100% record. And I think we've got Scotland next. Try not to be too hard on us. :eek2:

Would have liked to see 15v15, but the sending off was fully deserved. On the replays you can see it was deliberate. At least he said sorry the Welsh player as they left the pitch. I'm looking forward to watching the Italians beat the French in a fortnight.

I (and England) am humbled. You out-defended us. You frustrated us. We made the most mistakes.

My congratulations. Now it gets interesting!

It's all due to kick off again: a trip to twickers to deal with the sassenachs again and show jonny wilkinson that he should've sat out this game.

Historical day today. Ireland are playing France in Croke Park. First time any sport other than Gaelic games have been played in the stadium. Very momentous occassion. England will be playing in a few weeks time, which will be weird seeing as the last time they were in Croke Park they had tanks and machine guns and fired at the crowds! I think there will be some trouble when the time comes for the game.

02-11-2007, 07:02 PM
Ok, we got thumped by the English last week (still annoyed about that btw). Far better this week, but we were at home.

Ireland were really unlucky today, looked to be sown up then poor coverage and the froggies score in the last minute.

I dont think there will be too much trouble when England visit Croke Park, if it was the football crowd it'd be different but in general in Rugby the atmosphere between fans is for the most part good natured (also dont see why England in particular - there were plenty of Scots in the black & tans too)

Niamh
02-12-2007, 11:12 AM
not from the footie fans, i mean from the thugs in ireland. i'm not the only person over here that believes some of the eejits that like to cause riots will cause problems at croke park. we have a 'peace march here, i think last year, where our gov as a sign of peace with ulster unionists allowed then to march down o'connell st and over to the dail. there where riots! it was shamefull. thats why i'm worried. some people wont let the past die.

as for the game against France... how!!!!! two minutes to go and it was17-13 to us. How!!!!!!!

kilted exile
02-12-2007, 11:26 AM
Yeah, there is always that element. However, still I dont think it will be too bad at/near the park (the police should have that area pretty much shut down). If Ireland lose however Dublin might be uncomfortable place that night.

Something I just noticed is that the old firm game is the day before the Scotland & Irelend game at murrayfield.

Oh, on our last evening in Dublin, me and my friend went to some pubs and in one of them there was a rugby match on telly (some repetition, I guessed). My friend and me were sitting on some sofas with the telly over us and were in the middle of enjoying a Guinness when two elderly men (no, not your age, Virgil, slightly older ! :p) came in to watch the match. They politely asked whether we would mind them sitting on the sofas with us. Of course we didn't and since we displayed a general interest in the game they started to explain the rules and all to us foreigners. It was so lovely to see how passionate they were about it, how they told us about their own great victories when they were younger :D. At every goal they would jump up and shout although they could only walk slowly due to their advanced years :D.

We had such a great watching the game and learning about rugby, only I found it's quite a tough game, compared to, say, football or handball. Lots of smashing and -no- protective clothing .
