I am a developer of Internet ideas and interactive websites, and I find that Literature as a whole has not taken advantage of technology. In spite of useful tools like this Forum, it is not yet possible:

- to grab a play and add animation,
- to grab a novel and map the emotions of the readers in each passage,
- to keep a publicly annotated version of a copyrighted work
- to illustrate a text with images
- to illustrate images with text

My main obstacle to develop these ideas into websites are:

- copyright restrictions --> can be avoided by some new type of license
- lack of funding --> can be solved by partnering

I have found software that can be used to 'synonymize' a text and somehow avoid plagiarism, but it seems a partial solution for the main obstacles above.

Is there a place where these discussion has been already started?

Thanks for your ideas and feedback!

I can't answer your question, but out of the useful tools you mention, the one I think that would add something to a forum such as this would be:

- to keep a publicly annotated version of a copyrighted work

I don't even care about the copyrighted part. I'm don't want anyone to infringe on copyrights. This would be nice for works that have exceeded copyrighted time.

...and also:

- to write a different ending for a story
- to shorten a lengthy story, or to enlarge a short one
- to borrow a character and write a sequel or something else
- to produce web-enabled versions from paper writings
- to write new chapters following reader's wishes

One of my favourite writers once said: "I publish my materials just to avoid modifying them forever". Only that he did not have the Web...

Written information has always be easier to organize that images.
I am a Fantasy Art fan, and I would like to be able to mix images with text. How could that be done?

You need an online database, like MySQL plus PHP scripting. Some programming will be necessary. In which format are your texts?

My texts are associations with the images. I intend to write a phrase on what the image suggests to me. Then, to look that phrase into Google and extract relevant text. Each image can be a thread in a forum like this.

You mention a synonymizer software that can be used to avoid plagiarism. I will try that.

The whole thing would be used as a creativity tool for me and my students, in order to get a story out of an image.

Will that be enough?
