help! does any one know how dickens makes us feel sympathetic for pip in the extract when pip first meets miss havisham?????

You can do this, think ... have you ever been in a situation where you feel callow and unlearned in the presence of someone? You can possibly describe it better than Dickens ... so describe it.

Well the young lady has great presence and a strength that to me comes from a certain arrogance and Pip is a babe in the cold hard world. He naturally would think she was someone from on high, unattainable and far better and more wonderful than was really even remotely true. Think about school and that certain kid who just by sheer attitude whether having a lot of money or not just assumed a role and people practically fell all over themselves to be near that one. And really the only reason that person was anything great was because of the low self esteen of the ones bowing down to him/her
