I am surprised at the softness
Feel this texture of life
The bone is close to my touch
Beneath the meeting of flesh and skin
The hidden frame that keeps
It all in place, together, here,
The sensitivity, the location
Of attention transferring
Now it is the scapula
That feels the distal phalanx.

It will outlive me
When all my sinews harden
And liquids dessicate,
When the surface stretches
And irreversibly sets.
This calcium sink
Will lie motionless
Save for the movement of earth
Or will
Flee upon the breeze
Scattered particles of ash
Floating like snow
Upon the wind
Falling like dust
Through endless emptiness.

Lifeless,
The final dispersal
Of contained energy
Already only a memory
In someone else’s mind.
This collection of matter
Thoughtless as a rock
Like the observed cosmos
Just waste material
An expelled interior
Aimlessly drifting
Liberated from meaning
And free of all purpose,
Until those components
Are utilised again,
Imprisoned by life.

I liked that a lot AP. It has a beautiful morbidity about it. Or a morbid beauty. One of the two. I'll come back and read this again. Thanks for posting it.

Perfectly done.
How do you manage it.
You always put words to such difficult ideas, in such a way that these ideas that ocassionally come within my reach, are tangible.

In awe,
