Anyone know who wrote it? And do they have it here?

Alfred Noyes, 1880-1958.
It's not on this site as I don't expect it's out of copyright.

Hey
Alfred Noyes did write the highwayman, but I'd like to add that Loreena McKennitt set the poem to music on her album 'the book of secrets', its a favorite of mine, i'd just thought i'd share.

Yes, I have the album by McKennitt(among many others of hers) and I adore the song/ballad. I am a big fan of McKennitt's. I did not know who wrote the original so thanks for the information. Wonderful words and emotions. Grabs me everytime, when she dies.

I also encountered the poem first from Loreena McKennitt. It was a splendid rendition. Her latest album, "An Ancient Muse", also features a very, very lovely rendition of Sir Walter Scott's "The English Ladye and the Knight", just thought I'd share.

The Highwayman is an enchanting poem, made even more so by Loreena McKennitt's lovely melody. The poem is, hands down, one of my all-time favorites.

Hi Omegaxx, is Loreena's new album good? They said it has been 10 yrs since she came out with a new album. I have it in my "wish list" at Amazon and want to buy it so badly. Now I can't wait any longer, knowing there is another Sir Walter Scott poem set to music that she sings. The Highwayman still gives me goosebumps. I have all Loreena's albums, except the new one. All of them are great - She is amazing! I am a big fan.

I'm quite a fan too. The new album is good, but I still think "The Book of Secrets" and "The Mask and the Mirror" are her best works. The two instrumental pieces are nowhere close "La Serenissima". The 2 "epics", "The Gates of Istanbul" and "Beneath the Phrygian Sky", are somewhat short of my expectations though still decent. "Penelope's Song" is abysmal IMO. However, "The English Ladye and the Knight" is definitely one of her best songs.

Omega, thanks for that information. I think I will buy it soon. Can't wait to hear that Scott song. I love her ballads! Thanks, Janine
