i got this really few hard questions i haven't been able to answer and i got to turn in my paper tomorrow :(
the story is constructed around the symbol of the scaffold,which appears in chapter 2,chapter 12 (the exact middle point) and chapter 23( the next to last chapter). All four chracters are present in these three scenes. this is an intentional unifying device. where is the only other scene where all four characters are together?
how many years are covered in this novel?
where does most of the action take place?
how does hawthorne's choice of this one locale contribute to the almost claustrophobic mood in the book?
