Hi everyone. I am an avid reader, and in high school. I'm glad I found this forum.

Anyways, I'm reading Night by Elie Wiesel now. I find it very good. I've already read half the book. The book is very heart-wrenching and beautifully written.

I need to write an essay on it. The question is "Why is Elie Wiesel's book, Night, relevant today?" I need some suggestions, some ideas that I can bounce off you guys, or just have discussion about the book so that I can get some ideas of what to write. I would also appreciate any ideas you guys might have.

Thanks a lot. :)

I haven't read the book, but here's a somewhat critical article: http://www.latimes.com/news/opinion/commentary/la-oe-shatz18jan18,0,6889697.story?coll=la-news-comment-opinions

I have read it and think it’s a remarkable book. The article to which beer good points you is more of an attack on Oprah and Wiesel than on Night, although there are insidious suggestions that it isn’t historically accurate. I can accept the criticism of Oprah but the comments about Wiesel are simply nasty. He condemns Wiesel for holding views not currently in vogue and in a slippery and rather cowardly way.

“Never shall I forget that night, the first night in camp, which has turned my life into one long night, seven times cursed and seven times sealed. Never shall I forget that smoke. Never shall I forget the little faces of the children, whose bodies I saw turned into wreaths of smoke beneath a silent blue sky. Never shall I forget those flames which consumed my Faith forever. Never shall I forget that nocturnal silence which deprived me, for all eternity, of the desire to live. Never shall I forget those moments which murdered my God and my soul and turned my dreams to dust. Never shall I forget these things, even if I am condemned to live as long as God Himself. Never.”

Does writing get more relevant than that?
