Does anybody do any case modding here...have thought of case modding...or just want to nerd it up?
:D
I am just a noob when it comes to case modding, I still haven't finished my first project, but what the heck!
My first idea is a tower based supercomputer style thing...using angle iron for the supports, I want to build it to be about 6 feet tall or so, and housing 4 computers, networked to my server for file storage, I plan to set it up so each computer has its own terminal in my house (bathroom, artroom, family room, and kitchen) I know this is not really a new or inventive concept...I just thought it would be a cool thing to do.
I am thinking of also including a couple of USB inputs in each location so that users can attach jumpers or external drives for some input. It is a bit of an odd project, and I am mostly just designing it for the sake of trying something new.
The reason for it being 6 feet tall...just because I think the oldschool mainframe computers look awesome...and I dont want to have a pc tower in my kitchen...or bathroom...people think I am weird enough. :D
I'm not sure what you're talking about...

bring it on stan, but what exactly are you asking?

Please define "case modding" for us, Stan. Regardless, it sounds very technology-oriented, and as an example of my technological ineptitude... I once spent about ten minutes freaking out and thinking my computer was broken, because I forgot to plug the mouse back into my laptop. ;)
I'm not really 100% sure what case modding means but from what you said I think I can guess. I don't do much (well, any :p) case modding but I've got a brother. He's all into computer building and seeing as I'm about the second best at tech stuff at home, he vents at times and reveals his super plans for comp upgrades and adding cool gadgets to the ones we have etc. So unless I'm wrong (and therefore randomly babbling), case modding should be something like 'take computer parts and build a computer the way you like it'. Most fun (guessing only) is building the case. Somewhere on the net I saw one that looked like R2D2, it was cool!
Stan... 4 computers, at least 4 harddrives... that should make 4 fans or so... imagine the noise! Unless you're getting watercooling that is :p
I'd ramble on if I were sure I got what case modding means :p
Right, got off my butt and googled :p case modding (http://www.wisegeek.com/what-is-a-case-mod.htm?referrer=adwords_campaign=casemod_ad=02418 1&_search_kw=case%20modding). So I was right :D

I know it's a tiny detail but what colour of the case are you thinking about, Stan? Are you getting parts of the sides cut out and replaced by plastic glass? Are you having lights? LEDs look cool, on our PC we have 9 LEDs in a row and this software where you can program the diods. It's neat. There's also a switch on the outside, right below the floppy drive with a blue LED lighting the inside of the case. Last time I heard, we might be getting another green one shining from the oposite to the blue one :p. Once I got familiar with all the wires and insides of a comp I think it'll be fun fiddling with it. I'd be definitelly getting water cooling and lasers... not sure if they're called that at all, lol, those light tubes. Having a lappy one can't do that much modding on it I think. Right, babbling

Oooooh... it's like a big disco light....:)
and I thought I was the only one who didn't have a clue of what that was all about... ;)

You were right on with the definition!
I am thinking of doing water cooling, I plan to hook up atleast two harddrives for each motherboard (probably four If I feel like spending more money)
I can always use the usbs for inout devices, so there is not a really important need for cd's
as for lazers: I want to recreat a kind of dr.frankenstine / borg style thing, so lights are going to be important.
I saw the R2D2 one...I am rather envious of that guy! :D
Some cool mods:cool mods (http://www.extremetech.com/article2/0,1697,1640079,00.asp) If you search around the site, you can find one built in the shape of a tiefighter! probably my favourite is the NES mod, or the Mac/pc mod (actually, this is part of the insperation for the four in one tower o doom. :D
A sweet semi-traditional mod:Halflife (http://members.home.nl/gis/)
The borg mod: borg ship (http://biggestpos.com/pics/gallery/borgcase)

Still, I have not understood that what is meant by Case Moding?

Its a computer nerd term: its where you modify/completely build from scratch the case that houses the internal workings of you computer.
Some people remove the components from their computer and put them in and odd/different/or awesome thing, ie. placing your computer inside of an NES (nintendo entertainment system). Other people just modify the existing computer case to make it look cooler than a plain old box.
Case modding is like hot rodding a car...just that you do it to computers instead...really, its a nerd hobby. :D

Ooh... the borg mod is really beautiful. What a cool hobby! Very excited to have learned about this... stuff.
I knew someone (my brother's friend) who, in the mid-nineties, had connected all of the computers he owned into a giant tower, including about four or five monitors. But I hadn't realized modifications had come so far... I suppose it stands to reason. As in all things: if it can be done, someone probably has.

It seems like a nice hobby, I will try it but not in the case of computer

Yeah, I love the borg one two, it reminds me of the first contact movie (and also how I could never manage to build anything that sweet :D )
The tower idea sounds a little like what I am trying, how did it turn out?

Meh, I only ever saw a picture of it. I was also little at the time (well, 9-ish), so I didn't pay that much attention.
I think the Halflife case is cool! Complete with mouse and keyboard. It would be interesting to see what they did to their monitor! :p The Borg one is nice, too, but I gotta say I like the Halflife better :)
