Last night I was watching Dogma (dir. Kevin Smith) and I couldn't help thinking that Bartalby's (Ben Afleck) relationship with Loki (Mat Damon) is alot like Macbeth's with Lady Macbeth.

Bartalby gives Loki a prophetic letter. Loki convinces Bartalby to kill some people. Bartalby reluctantly goes along with it. Bartalby goes nuts and starts killing everyone in site. Loki feels guilty about what he started.

Now, I am currently directing a production of Macbeth, so the play is practically all that I think about, so I just assumed that I was reading more into it than was intended.

But than I took into account the three triplet...things. Throughout the film you never really find out what they are. Are they demons, are they mortals? (witches)!

The real kicker was when the Galgatha (poo demon) comes out of the toilet and utters "No man of woman born." (act 4, scene 1, line 80). Does anyone have any further insight into the similarities that I may have missed? Has anyone heard any interviews with Kevin Smith that could shed some light?

I could tell you a lot about Macbeth, but I haven't seen that movie, sorry.
