Most virtuous of vices;

The only delight,
As perfect in company,
As it is in solitude;

No woman;
Neither the sylphish, alabaster geisha,
Nor the silicon-pumped, G-strung, beached blonde,
Ever gave such pleasure to a man;
As the first sip,
Of the day's first cup;
Taken as it cools enough,
To startle yet not to scorch;

Camelia sinensis,
Gift of the orient,
Favourite of kings and queens;
In pots; in bags; in cups; in awe;
I salute you!

SLUUUUUURRRRP!

:confused: beached or bleached

i adore teas; i was startled by the ending (offended even - am a purist what can i say) but then giggled. "SLUUUUUURRRRP!" is so out of left field after reading "Camelia sinensis." :D

oh so true (sigh)

The only delight,
As perfect in company,
As it is in solitude;

:D I'm having my morning green tea while reading now.

You remind me by the condition in China in The Good Earth , poor such as Wang Lung consider tea to be something very valuable,which they can't drink every time just like the rich.

Thank you for your comments.

It's very much 'beached' - of course, the similarity to 'bleached' is deliberate. The comparison was between East & West, Japan at one extreme, California at the other. My image of California has a heavy Baywatch influence! :brow:

You may not be too surprised to hear that I was inspired to write this while drinking a cup of India's finest. There was supposed to be another verse but I ran out of steam (and tea!) Looking for further inspiration, I made another cup. I tried to drink it when it was stilll too hot and produced a 'slurp'! This became the last verse. :nod:

I'm glad you liked the company/solitude line Amuse. It's the one I felt worked best.

Now I really must go and put the kettle on...

This poem is a good mirror of how I see you, Xamonas. On first glance, sophisticated, intelligent, a connoisseur. Dig a little deeper, and the irreverence can not contain itself, out it comes 'Sluurp or Buurrp', what have you.
I like the poem, it's very visual. I can see you sitting at your fine antique table, legs crossed, a copy of 'Gentleman's Gentleman' spread out in front of you; taking your first sip of tea, a slight grimace as:

Taken as it cools enough,
To startle yet not to scorch;

and this just has a lovely rhythm:

In pots; in bags; in cups; in awe;
I salute you!
I love it.

If your image of California has a heavy Baywatch influence, does this mean you have no problem watching 'unreality TV'??

I didn't actually watch Baywatch, I just looked at the pictures. It's a male thing! :brow: :brow:

You are welcomeXamonas Chegwe ,
Your poem is so lovely and near to heart. Here in Saudi Arabia tea (especially the red one ,which i'm drinking now) together with Arabian coffee is very popular .Most people drink tea directly after every meal, while some prefer to drink it only around 5:30 P.M.

:nod: I'm going to bring some biscuits :banana: inorder to have it with your tea, and all of you friends are invited :D .

sorry :goof: I forget to state my opinion in my first replay :rage: :confused:
I think taht was becuse of the green tea :goof:

Got me in one! I can't take too much too seriously for too long.

But my superficiality is only skin deep. ;)
