In about 1971 I read a book, a children's book, that is very much like
"The Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe" by CSL. But it's not that or any
of the other "Narnia" books. The story was first read to me, while in
school, by a grade ~5 teacher. I'd love to be able to find this book.
I've asked this question of many a librarian and book seller with no
luck.

The period of the story is 1940's war time England. Story starts off
with a group of boarding school kids at the start of summer vacation.
While waiting for their parents to take them home they play hide and
seek in the school. A girl hides in a wardrobe. While moving to the
back of the wardrobe she comes out into another world, in a large tree
in fact. There she talks to a man. After being there for some hours
she heads back to her world. When she finds her friends she
takes them all to this tree, and from there into a medieval knights of
the round table sort of world spending years of their life. When they
return to their own world, after years of travels, they find that no
time has past and their parents soon pick them up.

Would be most grateful if someone who remembers this wonderful book
could inform me of the title and or author. I've searched off and on
for years. I am sure of the details of the book. It was a book that is longer and more detailed that any of the Narnia books.
