I REACH OUT

I reach out but all I touch is air,
that damp, dark humidity
bearing down on me
in the shivering streets
where smoke shoots
from the lips of angels
and sticky tongues curse
the terrible taste of ice.

I reach out but all I touch is bare,
bare like blank cupboards
and cabinets in an ancient
lady's kitchenware -
she's so old she crawls,
she crawls like a cockroach,
like an insect before the dawn.

I slip, slither, shuffle
through the intricate intersections
of internet ether
searching for you, seeking you out
before you're gone.

Now I wonder if you were
ever really there.

I love it!

I like the way you're playing with comparisons.

*This is great, Countess! I really like this poem. It is rounded up very nicely. It reads well even at a first attempt. Keep up the good work! :)

I didn't realize I had any poetic readers. (--: Thanks for your compliments. I realize my poetry is a bit different than other peoples - I tend to go for flow first, then imagery. I'm glad somebody likes it.
