I wanted to start a thread to anyone curious about the writings of the infamous and "peculiar" Charles Fort. There's a Fortean Society of his devotees but I would't call myself that. You can call him the original "X-Files".

Currently (attempting to) read The Book of the Damned, only 1/3 through the book. It's a difficult read because there's no structure, no rules, very much like Fort's bizarre ideas. I usually have to reread the sentence I just read. Please post any advice for endeavouring to finish any of his books.

i first found out about charles fort when reading 'chasing vermeer' (and i sadly can not remember the author... i am too forgetful, could anyone help me out here), and was really interested some of his basic ideas that are illustrated. i started looking him up and readig Lo! and Book of the Damned on google books, but my downloads didn't really like that, so i had to quit it. I'm looking to get my hands on hard copies, but seeing that they were first published last century (and they are still published now, but to a lesser degree i would assume... even if it's bad to assume things), it's extremely hard to find them. I don't really want to buy them over the internet, but if anyone knows how i can get my hands on the four books, i would thank you A LOT, and i hope the warm glowing feeling you get will make you happy, cause, it's all i've got to offer you =P
anyway, i find his recearch peaced together extremely interesting, and his confused style just... somehow makes sense to me. it's really awesome, but I'm not sure if even he believed half of the things he wrote. It's so awesom with it's theories of teleportation and i still want to know what ball lightning is, and i can't wait to read more of what way out awesome stuff he wrote... his persistence and strength of will is to be admired, he doubted himself so much that he would sometimes burn all of his note and reasearch, but would always start again. if i could talk to one dead person for an hour, it would definately be charles fort...(actually, possibly edgar allan poe, but that's another story)
well, i feel like a hog for taking up such a large space with my opinionated post, but it is my first so i guess you will just have to bear with those of us who have so much to say and have had so little time...

I was thinking to start a thread about Charles Fort too.He is really underrated.A man who had been spending two hours of his life on daily base in a library to find any strange phenomenon like frog and even sheep(!) rain.He was also the first man to do a methodic research about the ufos and he was some sort of inspiration to HP Lovecraft.I'll be posting from time to time some interesting thing he'd found.
