Hello forumers,
Have anyone read any works by Evelyn Waugh? An English friend of mine just sent this very thick book about Evelyn Waugh collection of travel writings. I only have heard that he was one of the leading satirical writers among contemporary writers. Some of the writings included in the book are Remote People and Waugh in Abyssinia. Maybe someone who have read Waugh's works can give me some opinions about the author and his works.

I've read Brideshead Revisted and loved it. If you get a chance, after you read Brideshead, check out the BBC film. But read the novel first. It's quite a few hours and episodes but its exquisitely done. I haven't read anything else though. But Waugh is the type of writer who's sentences, no matter what they are about, are wonderful to read.
One other thing, I wouldn't call him contemporary. He wrote I think from the 20's to the 50's.

I haven't read any of Waugh's books yet, but I was tempted all of last year to read Brideshead Revisited, which was sitting on the library shelves. I never really gt round to it, but I think that this year I'll try and finally read it. I hear it's worth it.

"The Loved One" was a real hoot. The film version, too. Mr. Joy Boy and his glutton of a mother were unforgettable.

Yes, noticed that his works were produced somewhere between those times. And yes, I heard about Brideshead Revisited and its movie version.
