I live in a country that has been under the communist rule for about 45 years. It ended in 1989 after a revolution or coup d'etat (it is still argued which is the right word). I can tell you that it was even worse than it is described by Orwell. The people who opposed the communist rule were sent (without going to the court, sentenced or being officialy convicted) to concentration camps where they were forced to work to death, starved and were beaten. I think this is much worse than being killed instantly, as described in the book. Due to the hard work of the people my country was prosperous at that time just as the author mentiones it. The working class got nothing from the benefits that were gained. Right after the revolution/coup d'etat the pigs who rulled my country ran away with the billions of our currency to the other countries. Many of you may think that we were stupid to let this happening, but you probably cannot imagine the fear of being sent to a camp or considered as people's enemy. And now 16 years after 1989 the situation got worse from the economical point of view and 70% of the people decided not to vote on the last elections. The other 30% of the brainwashed sheeps brought back the new old faces of the communist regime. Of course they claim now that they have European Union orientation, but last week one of the senior officials threatened a TV journalist saying that he will take the appropriate measures if the TV reporer continues to criticize the ruling socialist (communist) party.
There are much much more things I can say, but I want you to know that there are places on earth where the animal farms were a reality and it was exactly the way the author depicts it.
