:santasmil I am very excited to have found The Road Not Taken: A Selection of Robert Frost's Poems under my Christmas tree this morning. My boyfriend always talked about how he admired this poet, and now that I am reading this book he gave me, I can see why. Frost was a simple man who can bring lucidity to his readers with only a few simple words. This advice, it seems to me, is given in "Choose Something Like A Star:"
(To the star): Say something to us we can learn
By heart and when alone repeat.
Say something! And it says "I burn."
But say with what degree of heat.
Talk Fahrenheit, talk Centigrade.
Use language we can comprehend.
Tell us what elements you blend..."
Many of us, poets and philosophers in particular, tend to get so caught up in trying to describe emotion that the actual point in question is obscured by the adornment of metaphors and words that laymen probably do not comprehend.
There is more to Robert Frost's poetry than this, of course; this is only one piece of wisdom that we can acquire from his ouvre. The classic "The Road Not Taken" is not even a glimpse to what wonderful little phrases Mr. Frost seems to have come up with (as I can see from the introduction, with which I am almost done). My boyfriend mentioned that "Good Hours" reminds him of me when I go jogging. I cannot wait to find out why. ;) :santasmil
