In my book on page 152, Winston starts reading Goldstein's book. My question to all of you is that, why isnt there a chapter 2 of Freedom is Slavery? I'm kind of lost...does he not read it on purpose or did Orwell just leave it out on purpose?

Winston skips Chapter 2 (and most of Chapter 1) to read chapter 3 of Goldstein's book. There is never an explicit mention of a "Freedom is Slavery" chapter in Goldstein's book. Orwell chose only to provide details on the "War is Peace" chapter.

O'Brien does elaborate on the theme "Freedom is slavery" and the opposite - "slavery is freedom" in Part 3, Chapter 3.
