I'm in the part of 1984 when winston talks to O'brian. I am wondering what is O'brian's reason to talk to him other then to give the dictonary to winston. Is O'brian on to Winson and Julia or is he really a friend?? I think he is on to them and he is going to turn them in. :santasmil

Yes is it very weird that O Brian asks Winston to get the dictionary but what i found even more baffeling is how open O Brian was he was like strait up told Winston everything. Later on he said it doesnt matter if Winston or himself die because that do not threaten the entire movement. It will be interesting to see if O Brian rele is a spy and the book Winston recieves is just something to get people to buy into the idea of revolution. The whole situaion with o Brian is awkward becasue he talked to winston right out of the blue, about the dictionary. Maybee he could tell by Winstons writings that he was a revolutionary, is that how O Brian knew, andthere was just something that made Winston feel safe with O Brian, other than the fact that Winston doesnt care if its a trap. He reflects on getting caught when he is talking to O Brian but he dismisses the idea with O Brians sincererity, it will be interesting to see what happens ill ahve to read on in the book to find out what happens.

It is funny to see what o Brian actually is. I am near the end of the book now and suddenly everything has become very confusing and wierd and Winston seems to know where he is and whats happening but doesnt you know what i mean... when i was reading the book i was shocked to see who betrays Winston and Julia, I would say im past the turning point and i can barely even set the book down. You have to read it for yourself...

teacher doesn't notice little details.

Notice how, when Obrien invites them in, he is able to turn off the telescreen. that's power only inner party members have. Notice that he never mentions anything to them about location. OBrien is a filthy liar, and if you've read the book 4 times like I have, you'd know that. It's OBriens ability to seem like a friend thatmakes him so dangerous.

Honestly,

I've made 12 posts so far, and only two have been replied to. What's up? It's not like I just said "OK everyone, conversation's over".

For goodness sake, why does everyone keep spelling it O'Brian?! It's O'Brien!
