It seems to me that the only way a government could get to the position of having absolute control over its population is through a "capitalist and democratic" society. (Whatever that means).

No, really. If you were to apply the framework of the book 1984 and project it on the superpowers, which would have the most matches. No, not China. Try again. Yes, now you have it. If you want ultimate control of your population, you make them feel as though they are free. See the changes in the way the US government can detain anyone they feel is a threat to national security?

Your bank card, credit card, cell phone and email are just a few of the ways you can be tracked. You are also being watched by very sophisticated face recognition software at sporting events, airports and other locations. This is the tip of the iceberg and we are at the forefront of technology. When cash is gone, the last link true freedom will be lost.

If a government wished to force absolute control on its population, there would always be an underground and an ultimate uprising. If a government slowly, through fear, took away liberties and at the same time was learning how to track you without your knowledge, just how free would you be?

I'm not saying this HAS taken place.

I'm saying that it IS taking place.

I'm also not saying that it is a bad thing.
