Im writing an essay on an author and their relationship with their publisher, can anyone think of an author who has perhaps had great difficulty getting a particular book published. I would need to be able to get hold of lots of details on how they went about it and their relationship with the chosen publisher!
I would be interested on feedback on this from anyone! Thank you! :) :)

Curiously, I'm currently reading Anais Nin's "Fire" diary. In it she mentions Henry Miller's difficulties with the American publisher for "Tropic of Cancer," over the use of obscenity. The section I'm reading now is dealing with their efforts to start their own independent press.

A little research and I'm sure you'll find further documentation.

Charlie, are you who I think you are?

Oh, and if you want to know which book had the hardest time getting published, look to Ulysses, it was banned for years and set a new precedent for censorship in court.

As he wrote in the introduction of his soft cover copy published in Australia and the UK by Penguin, Michael Moore went through all kinds of **** to get Stupid White Men published, mainly by Harper Collins and the US government. It was to be released the day after September 11, but they stopped it, and then continued stopping the release for a few months. When Harper Collins finally released it they did their best to sabotage the book by not promoting it...and the story goes on.
I can't wait to read his new one called Dude, Where's My Country? Hahahaha.

Also, supposedly Moore was ordered to re-write vast areas of his manuscript in light of 9/11 events... I want to read the ORIGINAL version of Stupid White Men  :o :(

Thanks for all your ideas, i hadnt thought of the impact of September 11th on certain books actually, so that may be something worth considering. Who is the person who said 'are you who i think you are'? Im a bit confused!

Don't worry Charlie, it was a case of mistaken identity at any rate.

By the way, welcome to the forum.

Why was I just censored then?!! It was only the 's' word!!! The 'f' word gets allowed in other posts, but on this occasion I'm bleeped. This is ridiculous. It's not like I have a foul mouth or anything.

****? I have no idea why you'd be censored for the use of word ****, tho' I don't think I've tried to use it in a post before. I like swearing sometimes, saying **** and ****, it feels good, it's some sort of rude release of stress. :P Especially depending on who hears you. :D
