This is my first time ever posting a thread and i have a question. In chapter 2 of section 2 in the second paragraph it says "The train was full of proles, in a holiday mood because of the summery weather". In order to be in a holiday mood there has to be emothion i would think. And i would also think that there would be telescreens on trains because its a public transportation. There for how could they be in a holiday mood with out being caught.plz re.

Perhaps you haven't progressed far enough in the book, but the Proles are not monitored by telescreens. The Party considers them animals and no threat to the party because of their ignorance and poverty. Winston is somewhat envious of the simple lives the Proles lead, for they are still "human." Therefore, the Proles still have the ability to exhibit emotion, unlike the Party members. It is likely that there are telescreens on public transit, but once again, the Party does not concern itself with Proles. Party members are easily distinguished from Proles because of their black overalls they are required to wear, so they can still be monitored even if they are among the Proles.

Like cr4909 said The Proles are never watched. Nobody ever shows emotions because they are not allowed to. If any type of emotion is shown then you will be arrested!.
