Please help identify this sci-fi dystopia novel.

I'm trying to remember the title of a certain sci-fi novel. The synopsis is about a future where everything or everyone is identified by a number. The protagonist is also the narrator. He completely believes in this austere utopia in the beginning of the novel; as the reader observes his obsessive thought process on this perfect futuristic state. However, he slowly doubts the benefits of this stringent structure that outlaws individualism. At the end of the novel he becomes disgusted and disillusioned, if I remember correctly.
