There stood a face in the window
Framed in a second-story red brick
A beautiful woman, still, in her own way
With gray eyes set far back
and white, puffy hair
face covered with lines,
flowing in all directions

Forlorn it was, in that window high,
sung him a story still
Of a daughter whose father lost his job during the Depression
Of a sister whose brother lost his life three days before the
War's end...crossing the Rhine
The daughter of a mother who never recovered
One face, broken-hearted

Yet, she marched during Vietnam
Unwaveringly too for Equal Rights
that little-big Amendment for Women, '75
She experienced Jimmy's guitar wail and cry and scream at Woodstock
And even strolled the Strawberry Fields,
just not forever

Because she's there, high above
All that history and love,
like a rain shower in April
from her window at the
1275 Mercy Park Senior Building

Walking by, the snowflakes reminded the young man
That even faces in windows could use some love
We all can

So he lifted his hand,
looked up,
and gently waved
