I am currently writing a book about a soldier in the Viet Nam War. It's called Hell Might Be Better and it's about a soldier named Jack Logan who has been in Viet Nam since October of 1967 but because he is stationed near the DMZ, he doesnt get a lot of what he really wants: combat. Then the Tet Offensive of 1968 comes and he finds all of his friends dying one by one.
Jack is not a war junky. He has a mom, dad, and kid brother in his hometown of Montpelier, Vermont. His family loves him and he has a girlfriend named Danielle di Napoli whom he marries during his 10 days off from Viet Nam after his base at Lang Vei falls to NVA forces.
He goes back to Viet Nam and fights with a sense of vengence for his friends who have died and a new sense of love for the people and freedom that he cherrishes.
