In the spirit of the 'Superman vs. Batman' thread, here shall be a somewhat more apt comparison, hopefully to have less 'apple vs. orange' debate. The Emerald Archer?? Or the Caped Crusader??

BATMAN!!!!

Green Arrow is cool and all...and i like the whole no-superpowers thing but Bats wins the title. batman is always right (says supes). i like batman more than GA....GA's too liberal for me. however, neither support the death penalty. that's a little bit of a turn-off. well for me atleast (an no i don't support killing...just the end of those that have killed)

Eh, I like Green Arrow for his sense of humor. And at least he has a girlfriend. Plus, he manages to do stuff for people on a community basis, his "little contribution to welfare," I suppose--I don't see Bruce Wayne being particularly good with kids. And Green Arrow did kill at least once that I recall as a point of necessity, but subsequently entered a monastery fraught with guilt.

Batman. I find the character more interesting.
I always saw Green Arrow as an odd version of Batman. Oliver Queen was also a millionaire that did the hero gig without powers, only difference that he did not pretended to be a playboy, he really was one. Besides, I always percieved that the character lacked depth, there were very few writers that managed to make him appealing as a comic figure, at least not in the vein of Batman. I took some interest in GA when I read The Long Bow Hunters series by Mike Grell. Good script, great art, and it made the character more serious, it dealt with adult issues, and it drove away some of the childish image associated with him (i.e. the boxing glove arrow).

RobinHood3000, Batman has had quite a number of girlfriends, I'm sure he easily doubles GA's number. Not that it makes any difference to me, either way. Same thing goes for Batman's charity.
Indeed, Green Arrow has killed in the past, and not few times for a DC character. This is seen mostly in the series I mentioned, I believe it has the most amount of gore in the character's history.

"Girlfriend" is distinct from "long-time established superhero lover for whom he will travel to the ends of the earth."

The character lacked depth originally, there's no doubt about it, but Oliver Queen in his latest incarnation, to me, has so much more personality. Batman gets credit for a deadpan almost as good as Martian Manhunter's, but even Batman has to bow (no pun intended) to the efficacy of Green Arrow's trick arrows in Kevin Smith's Quiver. When Etrigan's about to fry Batman, a Fire Extinguisher Arrow puts out the flames and sends the demon into a coughing fit.

Batman: What was that??
Green Arrow: Fire Extinguisher Arrow.
Batman: I will NEVER mock your trick arrows again.

Green Arrow....undoubtably.It reminds me of nature and environmental awareness.I support the protection of everything green....trees, frogs, etc.....and black capes remind me of pollution anyway. ;)

Batman is better because the green arrow does not have a ride named after him.

A grave injustice, I say!! There should be one!! Then people shall know the glory of Green Arrow (plus the fact that he gets teleportation sickness)!!

Sorry, Archer! It was a toss-up with me, really. The sidekicks did it for me. I never could stand "Speedy". Now that he's "The Arsenal" he's a lot better, but then the original "Robin" is "Nightwing", and there's a new "Robin". The Green Arrow just doesn't have Batman's fear factor attitude either. Still, he was one heck of a good character, better than Marvel's "Hawkeye" anyhow!

Thanks anyway, Pendragon--I appreciate the honesty and the consideration. Hope you liked your obituary:p!

:bawling: I've been struck dumbfounded! Wait - wait, I can still type! Better than Hawkeye!! I don't know what to say! I love my archers so I guess as long as you voted for Ollie I can start breathing again.

Robin, I had to vote for Ollie because he's so much more interesting to me and again it's the whole bow and arrow thing. I will admit I'm not into the boxing glove type arrows so I prefered Hawkeye but Ollie has that great sense of humor whereas Bats is sorely lacking and a man without a sense of humor is not appealing to me. The Green Arrow also had the cool long time girlfriend, Black Canary and throw in the fact that he's not as intense as Bats and we're talking about a more realistic character imho.

Btw, I noticed his little girl sidekick went off to join the Teen Titans, forget her name, thought it was Speedy? And I don't think he's with the Black Canary any more is he? I don't quite keep up with many of the DC comics any more even gave up Teen Titans a few months ago.

Actually, Pendragon voted for Bats, and Hawkeye (UNLIKE Green Arrow) still uses the kitschy trick arrows.

Yes, Mia Dearden/Speedy II is currently with the Teen Titans, are far as I remember. Yes, Black Canary rocks, and at least Green Arrow managed to stick to ONE young ward (well, TWO now) and keep him alive (although Jason Todd wasn't really Batman's fault...sadistic comic book readers...grr...). And I think Green Arrow's "event-of-horrible-loss-that-inspires-superhero-dom" was a lot more interesting than Batman's.

Green Arrow's conflicts and problems also generally are more realistic and sometimes as edgy as Batman's. Drug dealers, assassins, a young ward addicted to heroin, another young ward with AIDS, etc...plus, he's got Hal Jordan/Spectre as a road trip buddy. How cool is that??

I once had a Green Arrow/Green Lantern crossover - I called it the "Meet the Green Weenies" or "Men in Green Tights". LMAO! Go Bat Dude. Didn't they stop making both of the green superhero comics in the mid-80's?

Nope, I don't think so. Both superheroes, to the best of my knowledge, are alive and well.
