The die is cast,
The moment passed
And though my vote be secret
this much I will say
If you should chance to see
A vote that was cast for me
You may bet any thing you dare me
That I didn't vote that way!

Good luck to all and may the one I voted for win! :thumbs_up :thumbs_up

Though I feel everyone on the poll deserves the honor, I'm sure you all know who I voted for... ;)

 I'm in the top 11???

I might vote this time...maybe...or not, cos there's only like 2 or 3 people in that list that I WOULDNT vote for...and not because I dislike them, just because I know the others better...

jakobin
12-02-2005, 07:07 PM
yes koa you are in the top 11!!!!!! hehe well done. i agree, there are some people up there that im not really familiar with. i know their names, but i dont really know them by their posting style or anything, so the person i voted for should feel good that i voted for them as the person that i know best on this forum, and that i appreciate thm being here. they make it worthwhile logging in every day. sounds like a love letter....maybe it is....maybe its just a note of appreciation. i dunno, you decide what it is.

I'm relatively new to this. What are we voting for? I see I have until the end of the month to vote, so I'll wait a bit until I pick this up.

 Hi Virgil! Welcome to the forums! We are voting for who we think should be the forum member of the year. The names above are those who have been nominated during the last month. So, get to know us as we will you, and cast your vote when you're ready!

Thank you. I'm actually enjoying reading such insightful posts.

Why can't we vote for more than one person? It's so hard to just pick one.

jakobin
12-04-2005, 03:45 AM
if we could vote for more people than one, then we wouldnt have a Member of the year, we would have Members of the year, and we dont want that. okidoki??

anyways, yeah, voting seems to be going well.

virgil, if you want to read more about this competition, then check out the Member of The Year Nominations thread, and read all about it.

No, if people have several votes, then there mustn't be members of the year and when people can vote only once, there can be ties too.

Koa
12-04-2005, 12:16 PM
Right...if we vote for more than one, there will always be one that has more votes anyway... and even if we vote for one, maybe there would be ties too... sounds confusing to say but...

Which one you don't really familiar with?

I'm guessing it's mono as he was (and still) not around when you joined..
But I think he's everyone's favs ;)

...paraphrasing one of the Marx brothers, " I wouldn't join a club that would have me as a member"..................

I am uncomfortable with this whole idea......

...one single contribution to any discussion taking place on this site should qualify you as 'member' of the year'. Ever idea generated has repercussions for the all of us, as far as enlightenment goes. Age doesn't exist here. Gender holds no sway. So where does the true power, the influence rest? It is ethereal my friends, smoke, easily missed when momentarily eclipsed by a few glowing embers...................everyone is one, equal...........

Basil
12-10-2005, 04:55 AM
Yes, but some animals are more equal than others.

Nightshade
12-10-2005, 10:06 AM
Honestly you two. *sigh* Ok Ill admit I wasnt at all at ease with the idea to begin with hence prof. Pes. And I domnt think you can be member of he year unless you joined january 2005 at the very latest but still other people are enjoying it it seems and Jakos left me incharge while hes away on holiday. So we are ALL going to be happy a celebrate any excuse to Party.

Virgil
12-10-2005, 10:26 AM
What exactly is the criteria for member of the year? Perhaps we should call it the Most Popular Member of the Year?

Nightshade
12-10-2005, 10:31 AM
NO! "popular" * shudders*
No It was whoever felt important or influencial or extreemly missable.

Virgil
12-10-2005, 11:24 AM

OK, I've voted, and I want to tell everyone I voted for Nightshade. Here's why. On another thread there is jackass who writes in on the religious forums who does nothing but bait and brag and condescend. I was going to bite on his bait and blast back (nice alliteration, accidental though) but I bit my tongue and held back. Nightshade, being a member of his religion, had the authority confront him and told him off.

Here are a few of her sentences:

"Wa Allah Y3ln el-L3inoon"
God damns( to hell) thoses who damn (others).

And above all else its plain bad manners to trangress on a PROMISe not to stir up trouble its like breaking a Salam. And before you strat doubting or if-ing or but-ing I am a Muslim and this is what I belive!

(sorry Logos, scher and admin if this is a bop worthy post but this has begun to annoy me)

Salam
Nightshade
It took courage on her part and moxie and grit. She earned my respect. Thank you, Nightshade. Nice going. You got my vote.

Virgil
12-14-2005, 09:31 PM
I'm too new to be included here, nor do I deserve the honor. Thank you anyway. Lots of good people to vote on the list. You can read above why I picked Nightshade. I think she deserves the honor.

Perhaps we should start a new poll for "New Member of the Year," just for those that joined in the past six months or so. What do you guys think?

Nightshade

yes

I think yes but then what about this poll??

Mebbe ;). But I could have made it two months and narrowed the field, so my motives aren't entirely self-serving. I really do think this could be interesting.

I popped in last week after being gone a while to find Jakobin had passed. At the time I was too shocked to say anything. I read through the posts, felt much as others felt, doubt, hope - that it wasn't true - pride in the members of this forum for being kind, logical, thoughtful and giving and finally I felt sadness at the realization that it was true.

I still don't know what to say. I loved his humor, his enthusiasm and love of LotR but I think it was his enthusiasm that I think of most when I think of Jakobin. It's his enthusiasm I want to honor and so once where I felt I couldn't vote for the member of the year I've now decided I have to. Maybe it's silly but it's my way of honoring him.

It's a hard decision though - who to vote for? So many wonderful people are nominated, all stand out for different reasons - it's no easy thing to choose one over another but I'm feeling a little better that at least I've decided to vote. Somehow I think Jakobin would appreciate it if everyone turned out and voted.

Virgil, let's say I'm female. If you don't believe that, or if I emit 'wrong' vibes you're free to think me male to your heart's content, I'm not really bothered with that :p
