Some years ago I read a short story but I cant remember what it was called. It was about Sawyer as an adult and the death of his conscience. Does anyone know what it is?

It was about Tom Sawyer (a young boy) and his adventures.

I don't want to spoil it for you. As far as I can remember, I simply liked it very much.

No this was a short story about Tom once he had grown up. Cigarettes featured in it as I remember .
Sorry I cant give more information I think it was called death of a conscience, Or the reason for the recent crimes in the ( name of town) area.
