I've never read A Tree Grows in Brooklyn, and I didn't realize it was a short one. It sounds very interesting.

I hope to, but I've been hesitant to put my name down because I don't yet know what hours I'll be working around then.

Hogfather? I don't even think I have ever heard of that. Have to read the info on it, see if I am joining in if it wins.

Edit: Ah, part of a series, do I have to have read the others to understand this book? I am amazed with everyone liking this author, I have hardly heard of her before.

I'm down with the Grinch! :D

I always try to read some Alcott around Christmas even thought I can't get through it from cover to cover. In addition to Little Women, she also wrote a Christmas story called The Quiet Little Woman which is actually kind of depressing but a nice story anyway.

And this might be embarrassing to say...but I really like all those "American Girls" (as in the dolls) Christmas books. They always have stories which include the good and bad of their particular era and they often have a short section in the back chock full of historical facts and info. Plus, they're short...which is nice around this time of year...

I just voted for The Chimes, by Charles Dickens. It is wonderfullly haunting, like A Christmas Carol, but often overlooked. I think it would be good for more people to read it, and it also makes a nice New Year's Eve story!

I have been informed by our online TP expert Tal that one does not need to read the other books in the series to be able to read this one!

Okay, good. I actually think I may buy it if I can do it without ordering offline. I read what it was about, it sounds pretty good. I am starting to think I would like her... it is just book 21. If anyone wants to tell me like a list of the best ones that would be great, because I try to avoid big series. Cost too much money
