Has anyone here read "A Fine Balance" by Rohinton Mistry? It looked interesting, so I decided to pick it up. I really like it; it's one of those books with complex, interconnecting characters that's so much like real life. What do you guys think?

It's in my to-read pile :)
He's Canadian, I am pretty sure.... Anyways, my friend read it and loved it and recommended it, so hopefully one day I will read it. I usually don't do many longer books during school.

This is one of my all-time favourites. The characters are all so real that at the end of the book you miss them. The descriptions of India and the poverty the people have to deal with are fascinating. Very few people say yes when I ask if they have read this book; they don't know what they're missing!

I really enjoyed the book and agree with most of the comments above, but i felt that towards the end of the book the plot involving the hair collector, beggarmaster, and worm became increasingly far-fetched and ridiculous. It ended up spoiling the book for me and I'm not sure if I'll bother reading anything else by Mistry.

I thought it was wonderful. I read it in highschool, and was quite skeptical about starting it. Very well written, completely depressing at times but i enjoyed it completely.
