hi everybody!
I am a 20 year old student from germany. I'm studying english and american literature and sociology and i'm happy that i have found this forum where i can both discuss about literature and improve my english (so please feel free to correct me ;) ).
i live with my boyfriend in a nice three-room-flat and since about three weeks ago two sweet cockatiels stay with us.
i do not have a favourite author, probably because i did not yet read several books of a certain author (except of J.K. Rowling ;) ) but always reading what comes in my way. but i like paul auster because of his depth and description of human psyche and also enjoyed reading the crime stories of henning mankel. At the moment i read 'the english patient' and i like it, but the last book which really impressed me was 'life of pi' of (or from??) yann martel. i was fascinated by the story and the way it was told - just great!!
okay, so far about me.
Welcome and enjoy the forums!!!

@ Eva Marina:
i think, the book is much better than the film. the film is just about the lobe story between the patient and kathrine and the other characters stay very much in the background. but this love story is only half of the book and ondaatje is able to write in a very sensitive way and with a lot of insight and the characters are much more profound in the book. so yes, it is worth reading. :)
@ aurora:
at the moment i have poetry as topic of my studies but i must admit that i haven't found a proper acess to poetry yet. at the age of thirteen or fourteen i wrote a lot of poems about broken hearts and beeing lovesick :) but that's all... but i'm trying to improve my understanding of poems...

Hello student_f and welcome to the forum. Hope you enjoy your stay. :)
You mention two books I have enjoyed 'Life of Pi' and 'English Patient', two very
ineresting books. I wonder, as you liked 'Pi', if you will discover and enjoy such authors as Garcia Marquez and Isabel Allende, e.g. 'Love and Other Demons' and 'The House of the Spirits' also for detective novels James Lee Burke and Raymond Chandler .... worth a try :)
Have fun!

Hello, student_f, I have seen you around a bit on the forum, but further extend my welcomes. Literature and sociology seem quite the interesting combination, and sounds worthy of much discussion; hopefully we will see you, and a new member in introduction, rannousha, around more.
