The Book Club will be reading an additional book during the Christmas holidays. If you would like to take part, please nominate your suggestions here by November 25th.

A search on Christmas fiction returned these titles (http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/search-handle-form/202-9688931-6096644) on Amazon.

I wasn't aware that Dickens wrote other Christmas tales. I'd like to nominate The Chimes and The Cricket on the Hearth. I'll also nominate Skipping Christmas because I thought it was real cute. I'd heard the movie (Chirstmas with the Kranks?) was stupid so I didn't see it.

Oh, I'll still suggest Gawain and the Green Knight. :)

By the way Sher, your link didn't work for me.

It might be because it is a search link. If the link doesn't work, you can try searching for 'Christmas' under fiction on amazon.

I would like to nominate the book Night wanted, Hogfather by Terry Pratchett, in the hope that she will be back with us by the time we read these books! :)

Shea> Could you choose one book to nominate please? To give everyone a chance, we have a 'one nomination per member' rule. :)

 Oh, sorry, new to this.

Dickens or Gawain...well, lets go for Dickens as I've never read The Chimes (or the other for that matter). :)

Although it's a children's book, I've always liked "The Grinch Who Stole Christmas" by Dr. Seuss. I can identify with the main character in spite of the fact that he turned into a goodnik at the end.

Eek! You can't mean the novel by John Grisham. I HATE Grisham so much I'd rather stick a fork in my eye than read another one of his books.

I've heard about a movie called "Skipping Christmas" coming out soon with Tim Allen and a very old-looking Jamie Lee Curtis, but there seems to be some controversy over the title. The studio says they didn't base it on Grisham's book and may have to retitle the film "Christmas With The Kranks."

Never heard of him -- thank God, if he writes anything like Grisham. The mind can only bear so many bad writers.

ah racing thrillers never heard of ah:eek: I think might explain my first grown up book was Colin forbes the Sisterhood when I was 10 and then I tore through all th best sellers Grisham, clive cussler Jack Higgins Dick francis John Fracolmn when he showed up by the time I was 11-12 when I discover classics in there original form and so Im naturally protective of these authors even though I equivlate them to my teen fiction.

I don't always enjoy Grisham, there are some of his books that I wish I had never read. But so far I've enjoyed any of his novels that have nothing to do with law (Skipping Christmas and A Painted House). I only suggested this one because the main characters take a grinch attitude toward Christmas for one year.

I have read couple of Grisham books and they are good 'reading snacks' even though they don't have much literary value. Having said that, I thought A Painted House was a particularly good book; a heart warming story told masterfully. I think Grisham has really outdone himself with this one.

Nominations so far:

Hogfather by Terry Pratchett

The Chimes by Dickens

The Grinch Who Stole Christmas by Dr. Seuss

The Best Christmas Pageant Ever by Barbara Robinson

A Tree Grows in Brooklyn by Smith

Please note that the first 10 nominations will be included in the poll, which will open on the 25th of this month.

A Redbird Christmas - Fannie Flagg
I nominate this, because another book club I belong to, but hardly ever participate in, is reading it... if both clubs chose it, I can justify buying it....

I haven't been 'round in a while, so disregard this if the time to nominate has passed.

I would like to nominate A Good Man Is Hard to Find and Other Stories by Flannery O'Connor.
