Hi everyone, This is a thread where you can discuss all about different sports like cricket, hockey, badminton, table tennis etc...

You can also bring latest news about sports.

Headline: Tomorrow, A cricket match is going to be held in Pakistan, well, in my city. :D

In the match, Pakistan is playing against England who have just came to Pakistan after defeating the Australian team.

I would like you people to share your thought about that and other sports as well. :D

I have heard that book worms are not much interested in sports so I also want to see that how much is it right. :p

Come and discuss your thought about the match and other sports.
No swearing allowed!

I don't know much about Cricket, barely know the rules, but as I understand it these matches can take a long time to finish, right?

As for Soccer:
I do know Holland is to play Italy tomorrow in a friendly match. Holland has a lot of injuries and Italy also misses a few players. Hopefully it will be an interesting match to watch, as both teams are considered to be very good.

I am not really a book wurm or a sports fantatic, but I like both books and sports, so really it's all about balance. Playing sports and reading books can be combined perfectly as far as I am concerned.

Basically, it is the forum for literature and many people are here like books more than sports therefore I was saying so.

Yes, but I wouldn't even mind if they played cricket in the time slot allocated to football instead, just as long as it's not football :p

Cricket, It is interesting. People have different interests. No person is going to force to like cricket over you. You choose sports for fun or physical fitness and Cricket can provide you both of these.

Badminton, it is very good game. I love to play it.

I have a fantasy football (American Football) team though another website *gasp*. My partner and I were in first place but due to some injuies we've fallen to second. One of our best players has been suspended the rest of the season. t's weird but I find myself watching games more often.

Other then that I'm partial to baseball, unfortunately the seasons over.

My favorite sport is (American) college football. It's more exciting and more unpredictable than professional football because the players function on pure adrenaline.

My home team (the University of Hawaii) is having its worst season in a decade, 3-6 so far and already out of consideration for a bowl game. But I follow Notre Dame closely because (1)I grew up 30 miles from their campus (2)they usually win on inspiration rather than talent. The Fighting Irish!

(Note: Golf kills brain cells in spectators.)

I used to be a big fan of basketball but I stopped following when my fav. team went bankrupt and disappeared. I still follow big events though.

I'm so fed up with football/soccer cos it's so important in this damn nation that I'm sick of it.

I used to be a big sports fan until some years ago, but now I stopped... Cricket is totally unknown here and I barely know what it's about, and I've never understood the rules of baseball (again, another minor sport here...but they're all minor except football/soccer...) and american football and rugby...

I love playing that and tennis too! :D

I really love watching baseball (not good at batting though). I really like the Red Sox (home team)>_<... even though they lost this year--they'll win next year for sure (why?- because I say so). Soccer is really fun to watch too. So is basketball (sometimes...rarely)
Football is..... T_T....ok I guess.

.....What's cricket?

When I was 5, my uncle was watching a Mets (baseball) home game on TV. For those who don't know, they play at Shea Stadium. When they flashed my name across the screen, I thought they named the stadium after me and I've been a Mets fan ever since. Though I don't follow it much anymore.

I mean today the match between England and Pakistan was great.

I did not have the slightest idea that Akmal will be able to score so much.

Youssef played very well.

I am sorry that Inzi was not able to complete his 100 scores.

I think I count as somewhat of a sports junkie. It doesnt matter what the sport is I will likely watch it (apart from the news it is the only reason I have a tv) Post Lock-out however I have been unable to get as interested in Hockey, and it has even been relegated to below watching the NBA (which is really low because until that point I would've watched tiddlywinks before the NBA) I cant get excited about it again for some reason, I guess I'll watch the playoffs but before the lockout I used to get the centre-ice package.

Well, yes. It's not certain but even if he had a heart attack (as many people say), I think it must be because of the loss in the World Cup match. What else could be the reason of his death after the very next day Pakistan was thrown out from World Cup?

In either way, it's bad. But if someone murdered him, then it's worse. A pity to see the length on which people can go for the sake of a game which should merely be played as a game, to entertain people.

Breaking news from the cricket world cup:

Woolmer death treated as murder

Pakistan's cricket coach Bob Woolmer was murdered in his hotel room on Sunday after the team's World Cup loss to Ireland, Jamaican police said.

A post-mortem examination found that Mr Woolmer's death was due to "asphyxia as a result of manual strangulation".

"In these circumstances, the matter of Mr Woolmer's death is now being treated as murder," Police Commissioner Lucius Thomas said in a statement.

Police have appealed for any witnesses to come forward.

The statement was read by a police spokesman at the Jamaica Pegasus Hotel - where Mr Woolmer, 58, was found unconscious by staff on Sunday morning.

Mark Shields, the deputy chief commissioner of Jamaican police, said there could be one or more people involved in the murder and urged the killer or killers to give themselves up.

Earlier, Jamaican police questioned members of Pakistan's cricket squad over the death.

After being intervewed for about an hour and fingerprinted, the team left for the resort of Montego Bay.

They are due to return to Pakistan on Saturday. They were not interviewed under caution.

This reminds me of the killing of Andres Escobar after USA94.

Although there were chants in Pakistan after the Ireland game of 'Death to Woolmer', I suspect that his death has more to do with bookmakers and organised crime (rumour has it his autobiography was going to be very open on the subject), than it has to do with the Pakistan fans who have gone to watch the World Cup.

This "blame game" hurts a lot. People just can't take a sport as a sport. It was in the news that the houses of our cricket players were locked in case a hard-core wild cricket fan tried to attack them. I don't know how much this is true, but you can really expect this thing from our nation, sadly.

Cricket, like all other sports, is a game. And one has to win, other has to lose. Anytime you can win. Mostly, the one who works hard wins (luck also counts) but all you have to do is to work your best; and the rest is upto luck. Blaming one another takes people nowhere.

Security tapes may show cricket coach's killer, Jamaican police say

By STEVENSON JACOBS, Associated Press Writer
March 25, 2007

KINGSTON, Jamaica (AP) -- Security video from the hotel where Pakistan cricket coach Bob Woolmer was strangled may contain images of the killer or killers, but police needed more time to analyze the footage because of the cameras' limited scope, authorities said Sunday.

Deputy Police Commissioner Mark Shields said the video shows only the corridors at the end of Woolmer's floor -- not the door to his room or others.

I hope this doesn't lower anyone's opinions about me, and if it does I don't care, but anyway in addition to reading a lot, I am also a total athletic jock! I love to work out/ lift weights to get my body bigger and to attract all the girls to a smart, athletic 15 year old guy like me! Some of the sports I play include Football, Baseball, Basketball, Lacrosse, Track and Field, Golf, Volleyball, Swimming, Soccer, etc. That shows how athletic I am!

I am not sure I would recommend too much of the weightlifting for someone of your age (especially the free weight type) When I was in school we were not allowed to do free weight training till 16 in order to let the muscles and tendons develop in a natural manner as lifting too early can put undue strain on still developing muscles.

Another thing I would be careful of is that you pay attention to exactly how you are growing your body, for some of those sports you listed flexibility and endurance are a lot more beneficial than raw strength and you should be careful not to put on too much muscle as to diminish those attributes.

Thank you kiltedexile! I talked to my doctor, my father, my coach at school, and my workout partner and they said I was developed enough for weight training (I'm an early bloomer. I started puberty kind of early.) I also work hard to maintain endurance, stamina and flexibility in addition to strength and power! I understand that I should be very, very careful with my body, but I know all the precautions and I know how to stay safe. Thank you for your concern! By the way, my main sport is football (American), but unfortunately it isn't the season, but I'm still busy with other activities!

It was such an interesting match, Pensy. Even till the last over no one could predict which team will win. At one point I really thought Pak will win the match, the way Sohail was hitting the sixes. It was a very interesting, entertaining match. India-Pak matches as always on the edge.

Although I "heart" Major League Baseball, I can't discuss sports at all today. The New York Mets, of whom I've been a livelong fan, collapsed yesterday. They had a 7 game lead above their nearest competitor with 17 games to play,
but they lost their bid to play in the post-season. It's said,
