From the biography of Kavafis by Robert Liddell (1974) it seems that E. M. Forster played an important role in making Kavafis and his poetry known to the world. What was, exactly, this role? What did he do and what effects did his actions have?

Hello Rodrigo, I can't help you with this question but I will move it to the General Literature section where hopefully more people will see it and maybe someone can be of help :)

Forster wrote a book on Alexandria - if this helps. Kavafis, as i'm sure that you know, was an Alexandrian poet. i seem to recall that Forster got TS Eliot to help him publish some of Kavafis' poems (actually, just confirmed this through a google browse: The Criterion 1924). someone who also helped a lot was Lawrence Durrell who made great use of Kavafis in The Alexandria Quartet
