Member of The Year

What do you think of the idea of having an annual election for "Literature Network Member of The Year"...Starting this year...

We post nominees and the 10 most nominated members will go to second round, which is a poll (everyone here loves poll, I supose). Then we vote, and by the closing of the year 2005, we'd have our "Member of The Year". Maybe we can present an online thropy along with the title :D

This istotally just for fun, of course...:nod:

ive seen this done before on other forums, and you then receive the title of Member of The Year, and get some notice somewhere on the site.

it is alot of fun, and we can also go on to Ms Literature and Mr Literature.

haha no i think that it will be very very easy for some to nominate themselves, but more difficult to nominate others. its better to nominate others to avoid the big-headedness that may arise from self-nomination. :p

mmm I'm not to keen on it, it sounds like competition... and anyway i wouldnt know who to choose and all, cos most people here are just so lovely... so it seems slightly pointless to me, but I see I am the only one so I suppose that if it happens I wont be able to restrain myself from putting my big nose in it....


Maybe I can open a betting point on who the chosen one will be instead... I already have a couple of candidates to victory in mind... ;) :D

Marvelous idea....

Nowe we're going to have somekind of Ms and Mr Literature Pageant, and we act like those peeps on TV, showing off like peacocks :D :D :D

But, personally I prefer that we nominate other people. That way, great members who are shy (yes, I know some of them), could be come nominees as well. And I think it will make the contest more "legitimate" (nominated and voted by others :p )


I think we could use some MODS "power" here by making the nomination and the poll threads as sticky ;), so everybody who check out the site knows about this "competition"

Papaya, my suggestion is that we nominate 3 people , which you think "deserve" to get the title. Any criteria, but please state the reason. And you're able to nominate yourself as well , and please also state the reason.
And after a period of time , say end of this month, we'll check the 10 members who got nominated the most. Then, we create a poll and let people vote among the 10 until, say 30 December. So, on the 31st December, we'd have our "MEMBER OF THE YEAR 2005"

I think it summon up all suggestions?!

i think that once the 10 members are chosen, then they have to make a small speech in the form of a longish post describing why they should be voted as Member of The Year.

and another rule, it has to be a member that is currently active. if they are not here, or have been away for a prolonged amount of time, then they are not eligable to be voted in.

otherwise, not criteria at all.

and a small question, will everyone be able to see who votes for who? for example, if I vote for Nightshade, will she be able to see that?

we need a new thread for this called Nominees or Nominations and everyone can post here. but i think that somehow, we should have it so that people cannot see who others voted for, because that will influence peoples decisions for sure.

How bout creating the nomination thread with guidelines as follow:

-nominate 3 names and please state the reason
-self-nomination is welcome (please also state reason :D )
-free criteria: you can nominate based on post counting, old/new/ activness, wittines, you name it
-You can freely change your nominees. However, nominees take in to account are only the ones in your last post in the nomination thread

note:

-nomination thread will be open untill 30th NOvember
-10 most nominated members will go to next round (poll round)
-poll would be open from 1st of Dec to 30th of Dec


Maybe anyone would like to modify the above?

i love the idea of side awards. I'll think of some possible side-awards, and hopefully have them up for tomorrow (tomorrow my time, so i dont know when it is for anyone else, but ill have them up soon.)

suggestions are welcome as to what these side-awards could be. things such as Most Witty, Funniest Poster, Best Avatar, etc....

I think in this case the results of the poll shouldn't be made public much like a real election just leaving it up to the mods to tally the vote. My biggest concern is hurt feelings, since it is a competition as Koa mentioned that could be a problem for some people and not seen in the fun, light manner this is intended. And I agree with Sub about nominating just a few people including yourself if you wish rather than having to nominate yourself.

And what about having couple different categories instead of just one? Most congenial, most whatever. Could that be a possibility?
