Huckleberry Finn is opressed in the novel by society. First in a civilized society which is living with Miss Watson. He is forced to abide to the rules, curfews, habits and such of a "moral society". He is to read and write, have mandatory school attendence, as well as bed times and eating properly at supper. When he is kidnapped by his father he escapes only be brought into a another area of slavery. He is free from the rules of society, but again is locked in by his father like a slave. In a way he is working for his father to make food and help survive, and he is given nothing in return. When Huck escapes to the river he is then free from all slavery and is able to start over, just like Jim. Hope this helps
