yep, another thread that lacks the direction it needs in it's life. like a kite without a string... i can't get into this other forum i'm a member of, so just to vent my need to post, has anyone heard of anime? anyone feel like discussing anything at all?

I'm a big fan of 'Neon Genesis Evangelion' and (I know, I know, 'it's too mainstream', but . . .) 'Dragon Ball Z'. I'm starting to get into 'Tri-Gun' a little, but I don't have the last few DVDs, so it is pointless to try and get caught up in the storyline, it'd only leave me anxious. Anyway, what about you?

hey! someone else who's seen anime!! i didn't think there'd be anyone at this forum, seeing as how it's a literature forum and all. i actually didn't like evangelion. just cuz it took itself so seriously, and did u see the alt ending;the end of evangelion? i didn't really get it. my brother's like in love with it though. Trigun's good!! get the rest of the DVDs. U HAVE TO WATCH COWBOY BEBOP. it's brilliant. some of the episodes are a bit boring, but u MUST watch it or i'll track u down and kick ur ***!!! D

, has anyone heard of anime?
I like both the movies and comic books. Trying to get hold of all the issues of Blade of the Immortal. Beautiful. But I like western comicbooks also, mostly the ones by Alan Moore or Neil Gaiman. And anything that has Dave McKeans (not sure of the spelling) artwork is fantastic. (He is the one that makes the covers og the Sandman albums) Favorite so far is Signal to noise, about an old director dying of cancer that tries to finish his last movie inside his mind, before he dies. The art combines drawing, and paintings - both abstract and realistic , with a language close to poetry. It has a very personal meaning to me as I read it when a friend was dying. In the middle of it all it was comforting.
But - sorry about being sentimental for awhile - I also like the movies. Havenīt seen Trigun yet. I saw Akira - good but perhaps a bit overrated, Ghost in the Shell, - I liked that alot more than Akira. I recently saw one with a script by Neil Gaiman, but I canīt remember what it was called. Anybody that knows what the name was? It was a really lovely and dark fairytale.

the matrix is known for totally ripping off ghost in the shell. did u see the parallels?
Isagel

There are some parallells, but I would not call it ripoff. More hommage.
Matrix can be seen as sort of tribute to the anime estetics and it has some filosofical parallels. You could also say that GITS is a Bladerunner rip-off. That is not true either. They just share some themes.
SPOLIER AHEAD! Donīt read this if you have not seen GITS
In GITS the whole world is not virtual, just some peoples memories, the one that have had their brains "hacked".
There are som scenes - like when Neo runs from the agents and they shoot some melons to shreds that are very much like scenes in GITS, in a chase through a marketplace. But I always saw them as hommage, not copies.

well, i haven't seen gits, but i read the spoiler anyway... actually, matrix stole quite a lot of stuff from quite a lot of anime. i don't particularly mind, but i think a lot of ppl credited it with originality it just didn't have. the first one was good; no denying it, but i thought the second was total crap. (scuse the language)

Iīm going to see it on wednesday! Happy , happy. Joy, joy !
Oh, what fun in it is to be a geek. :D
