Looking for a short story

I'm looking for a short story, wondering if you guys could help me. I forgot to bring my text home today and I have to read this short story. I know that it was written by a woman and it involves a single mother whose name is Bet. Bet and her son are taking a trip on a train. That's as far as i got in class.
