Anyone here like Wicked by Gregory Maguire? I read the book a few years back and really enjoyed it. Now there's all this hype about the musical and a friend fo mine who works at Universal sent me to iclassics.com/productDetail?contentId=58190 to listen to some of the music and I actually really liked it. Has anyone who's read the book seen the music?

this book was amazing!!
my mom is semi-obsesive about the Wizard of Oz and spent most of my child hood reading us all of the books by L. Frank Baum and me and little sister absolutly loved them. I got the Wicked for my mom for her b-day and i also read it. i thought that the mention of the Knome King underground was creative, also all of the small asides that aluded to the books. i cant look dorathy in the eye no with out looking away.
i tried to start the Confessions this summer, but i couldnt get into it and i never finished.

I think Gregory Maguire has 4 books now... I know I saw a new one by him at the bookstore but since I was attempting to not buy it I was not paying a lot of attention. I have read 'Confessions..." and that was a cute book. I had never heard of him before I saw that in a second-hand bookstore. Anyways, it is a pretty good retelling of the Cinderella story. I liked it and can't wait to read others by him.

I ordered Son of a Witch yesterday and have been skimming Wicked to jog my memory in preparation. I love this book and the characters have remained very memorable over the years since I first read it, but some of the social situations and politics need refreshing.
I have read all of Maguire's other books and have to say that as much as I liked them all (maybe excepting Lost because I did not much care for it) Wicked seems to be the best written. It just seems like more time and thought was put into it and the wordcraft is often nothing short of beautiful.
