Frank Schaeffer

I have enjoyed reading the memoirs of Augusten Burroughs, Dave Sedaris and others of this genre. Someone recently suggested I take a look at Frank Schaeffer's books Portofino, Zermatt, and Saving Grandma.

Is there anyone here familiar with this author's work? Is it worth my time?

I don't know as I have never read him but like you I really enjoy Sedaris and Burroughs. Have you read the latter's novel Sellevision? Hilarious. Say what does SAHM stand for in your public profile?

I have never read Sellevision, but I have read Dry and Running with Scissors. Burroughs has a newer book of short stories out (I cannot remember the name right off) that I have heard is pretty good, but I haven't had the chance to read it either.

SAHM stands for stay-at-home mom. :)

Oh right! Thanks for that, where I come from your role is known as (prosiac) house wife!. Burroughs has a book called Magical Thinking which has the subtitle True Stories. I have read it and as you'd expect it's laugh-out-loud hilarious in parts. Dry was pretty amazing didn't you think?You remember the part where Augusten is hugged by Foster? It reads like poetry.
" Foster opens his arms and I move into them, rest my head on his shoulder. He doesn't hug me like like I've seen alcoholics hug each other after AA meetings. He doesn't hug me like a crack addict I've known for three group therapy sessions and one meeting over coffee. Foster hugs me like he has known me all my life." I think we're all looking for someone to make us feel like this. Perhaps you've found him?
