well there is the theme of totalitarianism, or there is a minor theme that love overcomes the feeling of 'alienation and loneliness.'

There is also the obvious theme of "control" and the illusory nature of it; the theme of hope and its manipulation.

In the first, it might be interesting to work on the idea of Big Brother not only as a metaphor for government (though it obviously was) but as a more subtle metaphor for the metaphysic controller of the Higher Power (in whatever incarnation it is represented; in this case, I would lump all religions together). There are some interesting implications there, and the idea is far less explored.
