In my opinion, that it causes a reaction in me;
that it causes me to think of something similar;
that I can relate to it or that it opens up a different way of seeing or feeling something.

Slice is actually supposed to be an anti-cut poem. If you think about it, the reason i wrote it so disgusting is so that normal people would never want to try it!

Well.. "disgusting" is a very strong word. I think that people who cut or self-mutilate have enough hate and anger directed at themselves that, sure, it's not acceptable behaviour, but they don't need to be told they're "disgusting" too.

Good poems move hearts of the one who read them

Yes you do :)

A good poem is one that can make you feel a strong emotion (good or bad doesn't matter) That's what I think anyways :D

Good poems have an economy of language, and though they do not necessarily have rhyme or a set beat, they do flow well. I certainly agree that good poem incite strong emotions, but I'd like to add that the best poems are subtle in how they do it. I mean, word choice when describing a memory or sensation can carry a lot more emotion than describing the emotion itself. Er...am I making any sense at all?

Lol. So, based on this criteria, what are some examples of good poems?

Here is a good poem:

[somewhere i have never travelled]

somewhere i have never travelled,gladly beyond
any experience,your eyes have their silence:
in your most frail gesture are things which enclose me,
or which i cannot touch because they are too near

your slightest look easily will unclose me
though i have closed myself as fingers,
you open always petal by petal myself as Spring opens
(touching skilfully,mysteriously) her first rose

or if your wish be to close me,i and
my life will shut very beautifully, suddenly,
as when the heart of this flower imagines
the snow carefully everywhere descending;

nothing which we are to perceive in this world equals
the power of your intense fragility: whose texture
compels me with the color of its countries,
rendering death and forever with each breathing

(i do not know what it is about you that closes
and opens; only something in me understands
the voice of your eyes is deeper than all roses)
nobody,not even the rain, has such small hands

Simple, unassuming; however, still says the most with the least words, stirring a whole range of emotions in you and it is harmonious.

Please to define bood. I'm so confused I've never heard of the bood movement in poetry. lol Do not be mad at me Scher, please, whimper.

Right, I must have had some mud in my eye.

As for the angelic smilie...hmmm. I think I will start a thread setting up strict rules for the use of smilies.

Rule #17 section b; article 3 specifically denotes impropriety associated with use of "Angel" smilie when applied with sneaky edit option, and should be interpreted with an angel turning into spooky red faced (demon?) smilie.

It does hit a bunch of emotions, and uses words nicely. On the other hand, I think that concrete images do a lot for a poem, and this one is a little bit too abstract. Just me.

One of my favorite poets is W.B Yeats. I'll post some of his...soon...:)

What makes a good poem?It can be rather subjective, depending on the individual.Naturally, some people are going to be more inspired by certain poems, poets or their own style, but is their a universal connection of language?Some of the greatest poets are read in nearly every country on the entire earth, and their works, even in translation, are never forgotten.
I have previously read a bit of critical writing on various poets, and poetry in general, but have also read positive rebuttals in favour of poetry.Has anyone read any critical analysis of poetry or certain poets?If you want a defence of poetry(especially one by a poet), the best example is Percy Bysshe Shelley's Defence of Poetry(1821), which I would suggest for poets and readers alike.

Poe wrote a few good essays on poetry too. they may be a little dated as he lived before the post-modern movement. But its worth checking out. In my high school creative writing class we had to be (see if i can remember all the the criteria) concise, fresh, new, beautiful... yeah i can't remember. I am a pretty conservative guy, so amy actuallycreate criteria for a good poem...it would take a while to think of it though. One good poem (sicne you asked for examples) would be Under Benbulben by Yeats, its dence.... and terrific. Old yet modern. PArt of it is written on his grave stone.
