1984 essay, need help

Hey, I'm writing an essay on 1984 for my english class and I was going to compare Oceanic society and the control of Big Brother with modern society and the more control the US government is putting on its people, my main point being the Patriot Act of 2001. I'm having trouble finding points in the book to help my point though. If you can find some can you let me know?

I'm doing an essay using 1984 and a couple other books, and I'm also comparing them to modern society. The Patriot Act was quickly passed a few weeks after 9/11 during a time of heightened patriotism. The people who passed the Act were scared and patriotic and at the time couldn't say no to a seemingly anti-terrorist bill. Of course, in 1984, the Party members are living in perpetual patriotism and use this to justify various things. I don't have a specific example, but on page 51 (in my book) Parson says, ”What I mean to say, there is a war on,” in regards to the capture of a man who may not have been a spy. He's using war as an excuse for doing this. Now that I think about it, this is just like what America did when they arrested Arab men for no reason and kept them in jail. So there's an example.

Long post, huh. It helps me out too though since I have to start writing out my ideas for my essay :/
