This is one of my favorite poems written by an anonymous author. I hope you enjoy it!
***
My love in her attire doth show her wit,
It doth so well become her:
For every season she hath dressings fit,
For winter, spring, and summer.
No beauty she doth miss,
When all her robes are on;
But Beauty's self she is,
When all her robes are gone.

That is witty and beautiful and you can feel the time period.
Where did you find it and were there any others that caught your fancy?
"Misers I am told get up early in the morning, and burglars get up the night before."

I found this poem in an anthology called Immortal Poems of the English Language, edited by Oscar Williams. This hefty little paperback only cost me $5.99 and it is a wonderful collection!

I thought that poem sounded familiar!
I have that exact anthology of poems, and it contains quite a few anonymous poems, but I, too, remember this one especially.
Thanks, Psycheinaboat. ;)
Paging through more of the anonymous poems in Oscar Williams' anthology, I happened to remember this one, and thinking highly of it, though I cannot guess its time period written:
Love Not Me
Love not me for comely grace,
For my pleasing eye or face,
Nor for any outward part:
No, nor for a constant heart!
For these may fail or turn to ill:
So thou and I shall sever.
Keep therefore a true woman's eye,
And love me still, but know not why!
So hast thou the same reason still
To doat upon me ever.
